The blessing (and curse) of analysing 1000s of websites. I can spot issues a mile off

Flo State exists to explore the balance of beauty, psych + performance in online stores.

Today, I want you to get inside my brain.

What a glorious place to be.

Well, only if you like dissecting online stores with a fine tooth comb.

Think regularly about your next meal.

Or worry about the state of the world on an hourly basis. Phew

Anyway, this message came through on LinkedIn yesterday.

Sound familiar?

A classic case of low conversions conundrum.

It’s probably one of the most common questions I get.

How do I get my conversions? I.e sell more of my beloved products that I’ve poured my life into

And I’ll be honest, there isn’t a one-size fits all magic bullet.

But in this case it’s a value mismatch

Premium price tag. Seriously budget everything else.

First up, a look on their socials. The sale starts WAY before the store visit

Incredible audience size. Little engagement.

All of their posts were about the products.

Not the people or lifestyles of those that buy them

I made my way to the homepage. Someone has been poorly advising them

Lengthy review that nobody will read.

Whiplash carousel (and I’ve already discussed how ineffective these are).

Reviews covering the copy.

Popup before I’ve even browsed the store

Not the most premium first impression

Over to the products. So overwhelming.

Their bags are more spenny than Coach

But the model shots look like Unsplash.

Their products are made of beautiful leather but that’s lost amongst the copy

Free delivery is higher than their bestseller.

If your store doesn’t ‘feel’ premium, everyone will assume your products aren’t

This is a hard truth for most brands.

But it’s SO hard to see for yourself. You’re inside the terrarium

You can’t see your store as visitors do from the outside

These are fixable.

And I’m a sucker for wanting brands to succeed.

I've offered her a complimentary website review:

You can book one here if you’d like an expert’s eyes on your store

Sometimes you can’t fix it if you don’t know what’s broken.

Call in someone who does

OVER TO YOU

On a monthly basis, you will benefit so much from carrying out this exercise. It’s even better as a team:

  • Walkthrough your website as if you were a new customer

  • Start at all entry points - Insta. Landing pages. Homepage. Product Page

  • Write down your first impression.

  • Do you communicate the main USPs of the product?

ON MY RADAR

Rituals

As we all optimise our lives in every detail in the hope of becoming better people (or a marketers dream.)

There is nothing like building your brand around regular routines.

Think mornings, skincare, outfits, holidays, gym, nighttime, running…they’re all pillars of wellness in our day.

Brands that are flying right now understand this.

Repeat usage = frequent orders and brand loyalty. Ecom code cracked.

Here are 3 brands examples I’m loving:

Apothékary™: Herbal medicine tinctures for peak wellness
DIOME: natural sleep supplement
Verve: mushroom supplements for focus and calm

Someone told me it’s March next week and I simply can’t believe it.

I’m booking Shopify stores for the end of March onwards

P.S let’s sell more of your products
